Posted

The Historic Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Winlock has announced several events to be held June 21-22 in celebration of the church’s 100-year anniversary.

On Saturday, June 21, the church will have coffee and donuts for sale from 8 to 10:45 a.m. in the parking lot of Olequa Creek Coffee Cart. At 11 a.m., parishioners will participate in the Winlock Egg Day parade. After the parade, the church will have a cake with 100 candles at 12:30 p.m. to celebrate the Historic Sacred Heart Church’s 100th birthday.

There will be a hot dog lunch between noon and 3 p.m., and pysanky eggs will be available to decorate all day, according to the news release. Egg coloring pages for kids will also be provided.

An antique sale and bake sale will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the basement of Old Sacred Heart Church, located at 216 NW Arden Ave., Winlock.

On Sunday, all remaining products will be half-off.

Finally, evening prayers will be held in the sanctuary at 4 p.m.

On Sunday, June 22, a biscuits and gravy breakfast will be served from 10 a.m. to noon by the Knights of Columbus, the release stated. Tickets are available at the door. Byzantine Catholic Holy Mass will follow from 1 to 3 p.m.

Originally built in 1908, Winlock's Sacred Heart Catholic Church was shuttered in 2014 by the Archdiocese of Seattle, which said the congregation could no longer financially support itself.

Since then, it has been sold twice, before a collection of Winlock families formed the Sacred Heart Preservation Foundation last summer to purchase the building.

Last November, during an afternoon service, the Saint Kateri Byzantine Outreach of the St. George Byzantine Parish officially celebrated its first service in its new home at Scared Heart. Divine Liturgy (the Byzantine Catholic Mass) is held Sundays at 1 p.m. under the direction of Saint George Byzantine Catholic Church in Olympia.
