Hitchhiking Cat Rescued From Semi Last Week Finds New Home in Napavine

The hitchhiking cat rescued from a semi-truck by Lewis County Fire District 5 in Napavine last week has found a new home, the fire district announced Monday.

A “kind and caring woman named Gizelle” stopped by District 5’s station after seeing The Chronicle’s previous article on the cat’s predicament “and spent some time with the cat, to get acquainted, before deciding to take her home,” said District 5 Chief Dan Mahoney.

A semi-truck driver, who is from the East Coast but had most-recently driven from Fairview, Oregon to Love’s Travel Stop in Napavine, called firefighters to rescue the cat after he found her clinging to the axle of his semi-trailer on Feb. 6.

A veterinarian evaluated the cat, a female black-and-white tuxedo, and found her to be healthy aside from some minor injuries.

However, the cat didn’t have a microchip or an identifying collar.

District 5 provided a temporary home for the cat at its fire station in Napavine, but asked the community for help either finding the cat’s original owners or setting her up with a new family.

“This story has a happy ending because of a concerned East Coast truck driver, Lewis County District 5 and the citizen who gave the cat a new home,” he said.

Mahoney thanked “all those who called concerning the cat,” adding that the district’s slogan is “together we make a difference.”

Anyone with information about the cat’s previous home is encouraged to contact District 5 at 360-262-3320.
