Hunting and Fishing Highlight: Owen Sharp, 15, Centralia

Posted

Owen Sharp, 15, of Centralia, has loved hunting and fishing from the time he was little, according to his mother, Michelle Sharp.

His passion has only intensified as he grows older. The past year is proof his excitement is matched by his talent and work ethic in the outdoors.

Last spring, Owen filled his limit of turkeys, harvesting two Toms and one Jake while taking a friend along to teach him and allowing his friend to shoot his first turkey as well.

“This summer, he was blessed to have the opportunity to work as a deckhand in Astoria with Jeremy Scoles of Fish Slayer Guide Services where he learned many of the ins and outs of the salmon run on the Columbia,” Michelle Sharp noted

On the opening day of bear season, Owen successfully hunted his first black bear.

As muzzleloader season for elk opened last weekend, Owen, again by himself, set out to shoot his first bull elk. He did so on Sunday morning.

“With deer season opening this weekend, I know that he will be out in the ruff, eager to take down a buck,” Michelle Sharp said of her son. “Owen is a straight-A student who is taking honors English, advanced math and a college-level history course at Centralia High School. As a mom, I couldn't be more proud of his work ethic and initiative.”
