In a barnburner, nine-inning summer baseball contest, American Legion AA team I-5 Toyota-Mountain Dew defeated West Coast Express in walk-off fashion Tuesday evening at Ed Wheeler Field in Centralia, 14-13.

Tied up at 13-13 heading into the final frame, I-5 Toyota managed to get out of the top of the ninth unscathed, before putting together some good at-bats in the bottom half to end it after nine.

Luke Mohney of Adna advanced on a fielder’s choice, and would end up scoring the winning run after advancing to third on an error, then getting knocked in on a sac fly from Weston Potter, of W.F. West, to end the game, 14-13.

At the dish, Potter finished with a team-high four RBIs, while Napavine’s Ashton Demarest went 3 for 5 with three RBIs, Centralia’s Carlos Vallejo went 2 for 3, and Rochester’s Tate Quarnstrom went 3 for 5 to round out strong performers.

Quarnstrom earned the win out of the bullpen, pitching the final inning and two-thirds with three strikeouts. Demarest was also steady out of the pen, pitching two innings and allowing just one run with three punchouts.

Next up for I-5 Toyota is the Brian Cox Memorial Tournament at Bearcat Stadium in Chehalis and Tiger Field in Napavine, starting this Friday.
