In Focus: Cyclists Pedal Through Centralia as Seattle to Portland Classic Returns

Posted

After two years without the Seattle to Portland (STP) Bicycle Classic event, riders again rolled through the streets of the Twin Cities and elsewhere in southwest Washington Saturday.

Many of them will camp overnight at Centralia College before continuing on to Portland.

The STP, hosted by the Cascade Bicycle Club, begins at the University of Washington and wraps up at Northeast 11th Avenue and Holladay Street in Portland. Centralia College has long been the event’s official halfway point, with events taking place there celebrating riders during the day and many bikers choosing to camp there at night.

The college provides 30 acres of camping space, over 200 showers, food vendors, a full cafeteria, a beer garden and parking for RV and support vehicles.

“The majority of riders overnight here as it splits their days equally and has the festive atmosphere of a large cycling event,” stated the Cascade Bicycle Club website.
