In Focus: Mineral lights Christmas tree as residents stop by to meet Santa

Posted

With the weather thankfully less wet than the previous weekend, dozens of residents from Mineral and the surrounding communities attended the East Lewis County community’s Christmas tree-lighting ceremony on Saturday, Dec. 13.

The tree-lighting ceremony was a collaborative effort of the Mineral Lake Lions Club and Lewis County Fire District 9 Mineral Fire & Rescue, with firefighters dropping Santa off in their fire engine.

Warm drinks and cookies were available to attendees courtesy of the Lions Club. Aside from telling Santa what they wanted for Christmas, children were joined by their families in singing Christmas carols inside the former American Legion Post 171 Stormking headquarters — outside of which the Christmas tree now stands on East Front Street in Mineral.

This isn’t the last Christmas event being held in Mineral, either, as Mineral Lake Lions Club member Starla Mayer explained she’s helping Mineral Fire & Rescue prepare for their Santa Run on Saturday, Dec. 20, beginning at 1 p.m.

During the Santa Run, Santa will return to Mineral and firefighters will escort him around town as he delivers gifts to children whose families are in need.

Signup forms must be completed and submitted by Thursday, Dec. 18, to participate in the Santa Run.

They are available at the Mineral Lake Market, located at 104 W. Front St. in Mineral.

Required information includes the parent’s or guardian’s name, phone number, address and cross streets, along with participating children at the address and their ages.

This information can be emailed to Mineral Lake Lions Club member Steve Mayer at steve@minerallakelions.com or texted to 253-375-9995.

For more information, message the Mineral Lake Lions Club on its Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/MineralLakeLions or call Mineral Fire & Rescue at 360-492-5942.

Once sign ups are completed, a map of Santa’s route will be posted to Mineral Fire & Rescue’s official Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/lcfd9mineral.
