Lewis County Fire District 11, the Washington State Patrol, the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office and others responded for a mock crash during a DUI awareness assembly at Pe Ell School on Wednesday, June 4.

Pe Ell School’s Leadership Class organized the mock crash.

“They have partnered with our local fire department, state patrol, juvenile court, the prosecuting attorney’s office, coronor’s office and a few other private individuals to produce a mock DUI car crash, rescue, funeral and sentencing hearing,” teacher Stasha Magruder wrote to The Chronicle prior to the event.

In a social media post, the school lauded the students for their efforts.

"The Pe Ell leadership class demonstrated exceptional dedication and collaboration by partnering with local organizations to orchestrate a simulated drunk driving incident, powerfully illustrating the impact of community engagement," Pe Ell School wrote online after the event.

"Through meticulous planning, they crafted a realistic scenario featuring actors who replicated emergency responses, highlighting the vital importance of collective responsibility. Additionally, they organized a mock funeral and disposition hearing, poignantly conveying the consequences of reckless behavior.

"By taking the initiative and exceling in this project, the Leadership Class showcased the transformative power of collective effort, inspired by their collaboration with professionals, volunteers, and guest speakers. Furthermore, their involvement with the evidence-based program Target Zero aims to inspire positive change among their peers, embodying a spirit of empowerment and motivation. Their ultimate goal is to create a lasting, positive impact within their school, community, and beyond, leaving a legacy of inspiration and motivation that will continue to uplift and empower others."
