In Focus: Rescued Lewis County Horse Gets New Lease on Life

Posted

Mac Daddy J, a rescue horse that has won medals for his performance in equestrian meets, is dressed as a Flamenco dancer in a barn on Saturday in Spanaway for a W.F. West Equestrian Team meet. He's a gold medal winner in jumping for the district and took third place in regionals last year. His owners struggle to keep weight on him, but besides that, he lives a happy, healthy life. Mac was one of 13 horses seized from a Winlock property in 2020. When officials finally obtained a warrant and gained access to the parcel, they found the remains of two dead horses, one skull still decomposing under an overturned garbage can. According to previous reporting by The Chronicle, Mac was starved nearly to death, with little mane or tail hair and rain rot on his back.
