In Focus: Washington Trails Association Provides Big Volunteer Assist at Seminary Hill Natural Area

Posted

A group from the Washington Trails Association (WTA) returned to the Seminary Hill Natual Area on Wednesday after a previous volunteer outing last Saturday. Another event is scheduled for this Saturday, and volunteers are welcome. According to Brian Mittge, of Friends of the Seminary Hill Natural Area, the group last Saturday included about a dozen volunteers from as far away as Seattle. Their main goal lwas improving drainage on the trail to reduce mud. They also removed roots that were causing water to pool. “It’s clever the way they do it because they keep roots that are sloped in the correct direction to push water off the trail but they remove roots, mostly dead ones, that cause mud,” Mittge said.
