In focus: Youths learn from wildlife biologist at Seminary Hill

Posted

On Saturday, attendees of the “Animals in Nature” event at the Seminary Hill Natural Area in Centralia were treated to an educational presentation by wildlife biologist Jessica Homyack.

Youths got an up-close look at pelts, antlers and animal skeletons, along with Homyack’s pet albino corn snake.

Homyack gave a short presentation on the wildlife of the Pacific Northwest and then answered questions.

Other upcoming events at Seminary Hill:

• Music on the Hill — Saturday, Aug. 24, at 10 a.m. with The Department of Peace Trio and other local musicians. (Contact the Friends of the Seminary Hill Natural Area if you’d like to be a musician at this event.)

• Trail Maintenance Work Party — Saturday, Sept. 14, at 9 a.m.

All events are organized and hosted by the Friends of the Seminary Hill Natural Area, a nonprofit group that has been working in partnership with the city of Centralia (which owns the natural area property) to care for the forest and offer interpretive events for 45 years. The group is always ready to welcome in new volunteers.
