Byron Frank Babka, born Oct. 31, 1950, in Seattle, Washington, passed away on Dec. 26, 2024, in Pasco, Washington. He was 74 years old.

Byron was the beloved husband of Patsy and a devoted father to his children: Brandon (Jessica), Brent (Ashley), Benjamin (Natasha), Christopher (Jolene), Rebecca (Ashley), Daniel and Emily (Curry). He was also a proud grandfather to 14 grandchildren. Byron was preceded in death by his parents, Lumir and Myrtle, as well as his son, Garett.

Growing up in Seattle, Byron developed a lifelong passion for sports, cheering on the city’s teams and playing football himself. His talent on the field led him to play at Central Washington University and even try out for the Seattle Seahawks in 1976, making it to the final cut.

Byron began his career at White Pass Ski Resort, where he met his first wife, Susan (Haynes). His professional journey took him from working on Alaskan pipelines to the shipyards as a boilermaker before settling in Chehalis to work at the Centralia Steam Plant and raise his family of six children.

In 2000, he married Patsy (Knash) and moved to Gresham, Oregon, where he concluded his career as a business representative for IBEW Local 125, retiring in 2012. Throughout his life, Byron was known for his big heart and unwavering support for those around him, especially his union brothers and sisters.

Byron’s zest for life was evident in his love of adventure. He enjoyed camping, backpacking, fishing and hunting in the Packwood area and instilled this same energy and enthusiasm in his family. He was a car enthusiast who had a passion for antique concept vehicles. Byron’s love for his family was evident in everything he did. A proud father, he dedicated himself to instilling a strong work ethic and values in his children. He was their biggest supporter, always present at their sporting events, academic milestones and everyday endeavors. As a grandfather, Byron, affectionately known as "Grandpa Bo Bo," brought boundless joy and love to his grandchildren. He was known for his fun-loving nature, always ready with a smile and a bear hug. Byron treasured the summers spent opening his home to his grandchildren, creating lasting memories and offering them a sense of togetherness and fun that they will carry with them forever. His legacy as a loving father and grandfather will live on in the hearts of those who knew him best.

A celebration of life will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Feb. 1, 2025, at the Eagles in Chehalis.
