Posted

Donna Mae Lyon, beloved mother, wife and grandmother, passed away Dec. 10, 2022, after a valiant battle with ovarian cancer. She was born to Robert and Olive Campbell May 27, 1940, in Milton Township, Minnesota, on the Shelton family farm.

Donna’s first job was as a waitress and it took her a very short time to realize that was not a good fit, so she attended the Griffin Murphy Business College in Seattle. From there she went to Penn Mutual Life Insurance Company for one year, then to Smyth Moving and Storage Company for 13 years and then a short time at Bekins Moving and Storage before moving to Chehalis, Washington. After being a stay-at-home mom for 25 years, she went to Centralia College and received a library certificate and was hired by the Centralia Timberland Library.

She eventually subbed in 14 libraries in the Timberland system, retiring from the Salkum Timberland Library in 2002.

Donna was a member of Peace Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, where she was involved with counting, quilting and the library. Donna was an ardent reader and spent hours touring the world from the comfort of her home and enjoyed many years meeting with her book club friends. She also spent many enjoyable hours with the Project Warm Up members.

Donna, Jeff and Susan met Ken Lyon in Seattle, and followed him to Chehalis, Washington, for his job at the Centralia Coal Mine. They were married Feb. 22, 1973 at the Lewis County Courthouse where Ken also adopted Jeff and Susan. Donna is survived by her husband, Kenneth Lyon; her children, Jeff Lyon (Leigh), Susan Frank (Joe), Kenna Hammock and Aaron Lyon (Liz); her brothers, Colin Campbell (Liz) and Todd Weaver; grandchildren, Carmen Lyon, David Lyon, Amanda Peatrowsky, Alicia Frank (Ryan), Trinity Lyon (David), Cameron Davidson, Eleanor Davidson, Jackson Taylor, Nyah Taylor and Angelina Lyon; niece, Amy Flugel; nephews Eric Taylor (Terry), Wade Taylor (Paige) and Robert Grant Campbell (Tara); 12 great-grandchildren; and many cousins. Donna was preceded in death by her siblings, Barbara Taylor Hunt, Robert G. Campbell and Grant Campbell; her parents, Olive Weaver and Robert L. Campbell; and her nephew, Mark Taylor.

A funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 15, at Peace Lutheran, 2017 Bishop Road, Chehalis, with a reception to follow. Burial will be at the Napavine Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Peace Lutheran Church Library Fund or the charity of your choice.
