In Loving Memory of Mary Ann Kostick: 1932-2023

Posted

Mary Ann Kostick, 90, of Chehalis, passed away June 20, 2023. She was born Oct. 29, 1932, in Chehalis to John and Virginia Stedham.

She was a lifetime resident of Chehalis. Mary Ann is survived by her three children, Karen Park (Ron), Sandra Grady (John) and Ben Kostick; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild, as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death not only by her parents, but also by her husband of 55 years, John Kostick, baby son John Michael Kostick, sister Virginia Borgen, and her brothers John (Red) Stedham and Michael Stedham.

Mary Ann graduated from Chehalis High in 1950 and married John Kostick in June of 1951, who she had dated since the eighth grade. She grew up on a farm on Kennicott Hill. After marrying John, they moved onto Coal Creek Road and then built a house on the North Fork Road where they lived until 1993. They built a beautiful home on five acres of her parent’s original homestead overlooking the valley, one more move about 11 years ago. She had a beautiful, smaller home built on her property closer to town where she lived for the rest of her life.

She worked as a stay-at-home mother and wife, farming, gardening and running the household. For about 30 years, she also ran her chrysanthemum business of Mary’s Mums. It was in her blood as her mother also raised chrysanthemums and her father raised rhododendrons and azaleas.

Mary Ann was also very active in her community. She belonged to the Friendly Neighbors Garden Club and the district Garden Club, the Agate Auxiliary Children's Orthopedic Society, a Brownie leader, a 4-H leader for 20 years, a fair board member, a board member for Rockaway Beach Resort, and a precinct committee woman, to name a few, along with attending the United Methodist Church.

She also enjoyed playing cards with family and friends, working on crossword and jigsaw puzzles and reading, visiting casinos, traveling, canning and gardening.

A funeral service will be held at the Chehalis United Methodist Church at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 30, 2023, with a memorial gathering following in the church reception hall with a graveside service at 2:30 p.m. at Claquato Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to honor her memory with a donation to the Seattle Children’s Hospital, noting the Agate Auxiliary in memory of Mary Ann Kostick.
