In Loving Memory of Steven Karns: 1972-2023

Posted

Steven “Big Dad” Karns was called home too soon. He died peacefully surrounded by his family Dec. 8, 2022, at Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia, Washington.

Steve was born in John Day, Oregon, on May 21, 1972, to Jim and Carlene Karns. He was a devoted father to Kaydon Karns, the baby brother to all his siblings and he would say “Favorite Uncle” to all his nieces and nephews.

Steve worked most of his life driving log trucks in the Pacific Northwest and was proud to have owned his own business. He enjoyed being his own boss and being able to drive trucks alongside his dad and brothers.

Steve had many hobbies and interests, from saltwater aquariums to bird hunting with his beloved dog Gunner. The biggest joy in his life, though, was his son Kaydon. He enjoyed watching his son play sports and being able to share his love of UW football and cars. Being a father and spending time with his son was always the most important thing to him.

Those who knew Steve will remember him as a hard worker, a great friend and a proud father. His great sense of humor and his quick wit will always bring a smile to us.

Steve is survived by his son, Kaydon Karns; mother, Carlene Karns; brothers, Jim and Duane Karns; sisters, Robin Grove, Carmen Gardner and April Lundy, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, James Karns.

Please join us for a celebration of life at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 20, at the Bob Lyle Building, 700 Main Ave., Morton, Washington. Please feel free to bring your favorite dish for potluck.
