Michael “Mike” Lynn Schofield “Poppy”, 77, passed away Sept. 24, 2024, at Coffee Creek Adult Family Home in Centralia, where he was well cared for by staff after a long battle with dementia. He was born Jan. 29, 1947, to Robert and Lucille Schofield in Yakima, Washington. Mike lived in Prosser, Washington, on his family farms until the age of 5. Mike loved to reminisce about his time living on the east side where his grandparents ran a mint farm and his dad had milk cows.

After leaving Prosser, his family moved to Centralia where he soon met the love of his life Susan (Sue) Schofield (Orr) in the fifth grade. He was a graduate of Centralia High School and was a part of the Suburban Knights car club. He had a love for old Chevrolet cars and pickups, and this continued throughout his life. After high school, he was drafted during the Vietnam War and served from 1967-69. During a quick trip home from leave he and the love of his life, Sue, were married Dec. 2, 1967.

After being discharged from war, he came home and settled in the Little Hanaford Valley where he and Sue resided for over 50 years in the home they built together. This is where Mike and his wife, Sue, raised their two children, Jennifer and Jeff. Mike worked at Kraft and Keen and Howards, before retiring from TransAlta where he was a parts man. In 1994, Mike and Sue bought the Chehalis Mints Co. He enjoyed working in the candy shop with his children, which allowed him to spend a lot of time with his grandchildren who were always present. He enjoyed taking trips with his family, especially to Leavenworth.

Mike is preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Sue Schofield; sister and brother-in-law Judy and Leroy Lovely; and brother-in-law Bill Orr.

Mike is survived by his brothers Kevin and Donnie Eastman; sister/brothers-in-law Christine Orr, Patty (Bob) Siemers and Don (Jenny) Orr; children, Jennifer (Albert) Kassel and Jeff (Amy) Schofield; grandchildren, Sadie (Keaton) Meek, Sawyer Kassel, Emma and Gracie Schofield; and great-grandchildren, Colter and Leona Meek; and many nieces, nephews and loved ones.

A graveside service with military honors will be held Friday, Oct. 4, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Mountain View Cemetery in Centralia, reception to follow from 12-2 p.m. at Dick's Brewing Company, 3516 Galvin Road, Centralia. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Sticklin Funeral Chapel.
