An inmate at the Lewis County Jail is facing three third-degree assault charges for allegedly punching three deputies.

On July 6, the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office dispatched officers to the jail regarding assaults that had occurred the previous afternoon.

Witnesses reported that Preston Brown, 22, of Adna, was being escorted by a deputy inside the jail when Brown allegedly turned and struck the deputy on the side of the head, knocking the deputy to the ground. Brown attempted to run away when he was contacted by another deputy.

Brown allegedly punched the second deputy on the side of the head.

According to court documents, the officers were able to detain Brown with the assistance of a third deputy.

“Once Brown’s handcuffs were removed, Brown reportedly squared off with and punched (the third deputy) on the side of the face as well,” court documents stated.

Brown appeared in court for a preliminary hearing on Thursday, July 28.
