Isaac Pope, First Elected to Chehalis City Council in 1987, Says He Won’t Seek a New Term

After first being elected to the Chehalis City Council  in 1987 and having served for nearly four decades, Isaac Pope, now 84, announced Monday he will not seek a new term.

“My seat is becoming vacant, and I would encourage anyone from the fourth district that is interested to please file (to run) early,” Pope said during the Monday night city council meeting. “It’s been an honor for me to have been on this council for those many years and I feel like it is time to move on, so I am not gonna run for re-election.”

Other councilors, including Mayor Tony Ketchum, thanked Pope for his service and dedication to the city.

“When you got elected, I was still in high school,” Ketchum said.

While Chehalis District 4 will get a new councilor by Dec. 31, several other council positions will be on the ballot this year as well.

Those positions include: at-large position 2, currently held by Councilor Kevin Carns; District 1, currently held by Councilor Jerry Lord; District 2, currently held by Councilor Daryl Lund; and District 3, currently held by Ketchum.
