Lewis County Rodeo to entertain over two nights at fair

Sanctioned by the Northwest Professional Rodeo Association for the second year, the Lewis County Rodeo is set to take place during the Southwest Washington Fair on Wednesday, Aug. 14, and Thursday, Aug. 15.

Both rodeo events will begin at 7 p.m.

The rodeo will feature multiple events including bareback riding, tie down roping, breakaway roping, saddle bronc riding, steer wrestling, team roping, barrel racing, bull riding and mutton busting.

Mutton busting is a longtime beloved event of the Southwest Washington Fair.

There will be 15 riders each day on Wednesday and Thursday of fair week plus three alternates.

Grandstand adult ticket prices will be $20. A limited quantity of arena bleacher seat tickets will be available for $25 each. Children’s grandstand tickets will be $10.

Box seats are also available for both days of the rodeo. Box seats of eight, 12 and 20 will be available, and the fair office offers banners available for advertising. Box seats of eight cost $400, box seats of 12 cost $600 and boxes of 20 seats cost $1,000.

Two chances to see monster trucks at the fair

This year’s Southwest Washington Fair will welcome seven monster trucks to the grandstands for their Monster Truck Mash Up show on Saturday, Aug. 17.

This year’s lineup of monster trucks includes Controlled Khaos, Double Trouble, First Responder, Hillbilly, T-Maxxx, Veteran and Zombie Tracker.

Attendees can watch the trucks from their seats in the grandstands at 1 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

Tickets for adults are $30. Tickets for children are $20.

Tickets can be purchased at the grandstands starting on the first day of the fair Tuesday, Aug. 13.

Wenatchee Youth Circus to provide several daily shows at SWW Fair

The Wenatchee Youth Circus is a volunteer-based organization that travels throughout the Northwest and features aerial acts, high wiring stunts and clowning.

They will be performing on the field behind the fair office at 1 p.m., 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. every day during fair week.

The Wenatchee Youth Circus (WYC) strives to “reach as many youth as possible and teach them the importance of setting goals for themselves while striving to work hard and stay focused,” according to their website.

The WYC has been traveling and performing in the Pacific Northwest for over 70 years. Alumni from the WYC have gone on to perform with professional circuses, including the Wallenda Family, the Joseph Ashton Family Circus in Australia, Ringling Brothers and Cirque du Soleil.

Kids that participate in the circus cross train with other youth circus organizations such as the Sarasota Youth Circus in Florida. One of Wenatchee Youth Circus’ goals is that their performers “learn the value of giving back to the community what our community has so generously given to them” according to their mission statement.

Wenatchee Youth Circus’ performances at the Southwest Washington Fair will be free with admission.
