‘It's Turned Into a Regional Event’: Vader Puts on Fourth of July Fireworks Show

The City of Vader hosted a Fourth of July fireworks show Tuesday night with a little help from surrounding communities.

According to Vader Mayor Joe Schey, the city spent nearly $6,000 on a nearly half-hour fireworks show from Jake’s Fireworks Warehouse, which is based in Winlock, in the field behind Vader preschool.

Nearly 300 people packed the viewing area in the field, with hundreds more watching from their backyards throughout Vader and parked on state Route 506.

“This town is so quiet usually, but then we do things like the May Day parade, this, everyone comes out and the place is packed,” Schey said. “We’re an hour away from the show starting and look at this, look at the parking along the highway. It’s kind of turned into a regional event.”

Schey also volunteered his time and equipment as DJ for the show.

Members of the Vader Parks and Recreation Board helped secure the field behind Vader preschool for the show’s site with permission from the Castle Rock School Board.

As for the fireworks themselves, Nick Saia, of Napavine and Danny Wilson, of Longview, along with Jon Mayo and his daughter, Grace Mueller, both of Belfair, volunteered their time setting up the show over the Fourth of July weekend.
