The Lucky Eagle Casino’s Valentine’s Day show this year has a grammy-nominated flavor as Ambrosia will perform alongside special guest John Ford Coley.

The show is scheduled for 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 14, at the Lucky Eagle Casino in Rochester. Doors open at 7 p.m. Attendees must be 21 or older.

John Ford Coley is a singer and songwriter who enjoyed a brief acting career. He was part of the duo England Dan and John Ford Coley. He currently tours and performs with Ambrosia.

“Ambrosia, an American rock band formed in Los Angeles in 1970, is back in action” Lucky Eagle Casino stated online. “The band boasts five Top 40 hit singles released between the years of 1975 and 1980. The singles include ‘Holdin’ on to Yesterday,’ ‘You’re the Only Woman (You & I),’ ‘Biggest Part of Me,’ and ‘How Much I Feel.’ The band has been playing together for 25 years. Seeing Ambrosia live is a nostalgic and energizing experience.”

Coley is most well known for the song “I’d Really Love To See You Tonight,” which he released with his former partner, Dan Seals.

When asked what to expect at the performance, Coley said “we do a thing called ‘rock the dock.’”

“Rock the dock,” Coley told The Chronicle, is where everyone performing gets a couple minutes to play whatever they want, including their biggest hit songs.

“There's not that much time between everybody, so we’re sticking to our songs that were on the radio that the audience might recall,” Coley said. “We take people down memory lane. No politics. No controversial things. We’re just up there playing music.”

The performance is different from most of Coley’s usual shows, which last an hour or two and consist of music as well as stories and jokes.

“It's just kind of a feel-good sort of an evening, but musically, it’s all over the place, since I play a lot of songs that they might know, and some they might not remember,” Coley said.

When asked, Coley said his favorite song he’ll be playing is “Love Is The Answer,” which some audience members might recognize from the radio.

“I really enjoy playing that one,” Coley stated.

While Coley is primarily a musician and performer, he has a soft spot for acting. When asked if he will consider doing anything acting related again, Coley said, “There's a possibility of doing a cameo thing pretty soon, but I really enjoy working with actors. That's a nice way to spend a day, because of the amount of people that come in and out, so you’re always getting a fresh collection of jokes. Actors are just a different breed of people, and generally they’re quite well-read.”

Coley is also looking forward to visiting the Washington area again, and specifically enjoying fresh seafood.

“I live in Tennessee, so there's not a whole lot of fresh seafood up here, and I happen to like that a lot, so I guarantee you I’m gonna be eating my weight in salmon,” he said.

The plan for this show is the same as all his shows, Coley stated.

“We just have a good time. The goal is, when they walk out, they’ve enjoyed themselves,” he said.
