Johnson leading the field after Day 1 of districts

Black Hills’ Ellie Johnson is atop the leaderboard after the first day of the 2A District 4 Tournament, and she’s one of 19 area golfers who made the cut for Day 2.

Johnson shot a 5-over 77 on Wednesday, which puts her six strokes ahead of second.

Tumwater’s Jenna Kalar is the next best area golfer, and she sits at 16-over and in seventh place heading into Thursday.

Madyson Alexander is leading the way for W.F. West at 25-over and in 13th place, while Tess McMurry sits in 17th after shooting a 101 to lead Centralia.



Savanna Hoyt-Siler (20th, 106), Joelie Corey (21st, 107), Paige Duncan (T-25th, 110), Anabel Moeckel (T-25th, 110), and Ava Hamilton (T-34th, 116) will join Alexander in representing W.F. West on Day 2.

Corin Meek (38th, 118) is the other Tiger to qualify for the second day, while Lily Wagner (10th, 93), Paige Dorcy (T-17th, 101), Lucy Ramos (T-21st, 107), and Tayauna Yeates (33rd, 115) are the other T-Birds to make the cut.

Natalie Buchanan (11th, 95), Melody Hackworth (T-14th, 98), Megan Dolby (16th, 99), Lila Ariss (19th, 103), and Adeline Rice (T-27th, 111) will also golf on Thursday for Black Hills.

The top 19 golfers after the Thursday rounds will advance to the 2A State Tournament, which is set for next Tuesday and Wednesday, May 20 and 21, right back at Tumwater Valley.
