Jr. Cats win TCYFL championship

The 6th Grade Chehalis Jr. Cats capped off a perfect season in dominant fashion in Sunday at South Sound Stadium in Lacey, beating Yelm 25-0 to win the TCYFL major varsity title.

“The boys played with a lot of heart today,” head coach Jerad Jacobson said.

Drew Hill started the scoring with a touchdown pass to Gavin Spencer, and the two would link up later in the afternoon for another score.

Luke Hartley and Rylan McConnell both added rushing touchdowns.

On defense, the Jr. Cats posted their fifth shutout in eight games this season. With members of the W.F. West football team — who were part of the last TCYFL championship-winning squad from Chehalis — on hand after holding Centralia to just three first downs in the Swamp Cup on Friday, the Jr. Cats did them one better, limiting Yelm to two first downs all game.
