Letter to the Editor: A Student’s Appeal for Everyone to Be Treated Equally

Posted

Hello, my name is Lesley Rangel. I'm a student at Centralia High School in 10th grade. I've grown up in Centralia my whole life.

Growing up from a small town has taught me many things and one of the most important ones I wish everyone could work on is treating everyone the same and everyone having equal rights.

One thing I've noticed about this society is everyone gets treated differently by their looks, money, beliefs, race and style. Growing up in a small town in Washington, I've seen all those things, even outside of my hometown. People with different skin colors shouldn’t be afraid of anything or anyone because they have different skin colors. They also shouldn’t get paid less or more. Everyone is the same even with their unique ways.

Styling in today's society is a huge part of people showing and expressing themselves. I wish people would just see it as art for someone and who they are. Not everyone should have to have the perfect body to feel pretty and harm themselves to feel that way.

Money is one of the biggest things for which people like to think differently of others. No matter if you're poor or rich, everyone's the same. If you are one of those people, think about how you were once at the bottom and they could be rich like you one day.

For looks, I've learned that people like only being nice to the “popular” kids and being mean to the rest.

No matter what you look like size, belief, color and style everyone should be treated the same and be treated equally.
