Letter to the Editor: From Army Wife to Change-Maker — The Inspiring Journey of Lakeda Sullivan

Posted

Lakeda Sullivan, a devoted mother, foster mom, and CEO of Touched By One Touched By All, has always been passionate about making a difference in the lives of those around her.

While living on Joint Base Lewis-McChord as an active-duty army wife, Lakeda’s life took an unexpected turn when she became aware of the challenges faced by military families, especially those with limited resources.

One particular day, Lakeda overheard a struggling mother in the commissary, unable to afford diapers for her child. This heart wrenching moment stayed with Lakeda, igniting a fire within her to make a change. She knew that providing diapers and other essential baby supplies to struggling families was just the beginning and she was determined to create a larger impact.

Drawing from her experiences as a mother, foster mom, community health worker, and day care owner, Lakeda founded Touched By One Touched By All. The nonprofit organization started as a diaper bank program on the military base, addressing the immediate needs of military families. However, Lakeda’s vision didn’t stop there. She expanded her reach, offering a wide range of support services to families and individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities across Washington state.

Lakeda’s advocacy for change has inspired many, leading to numerous partnerships with organizations who share her mission to improve the lives of others. As a result, Touched By One Touched By All has grown into a well-respected nonprofit that has touched countless lives.

Lakeda’s journey is a testament to the power of empathy, determination, and a deep sense of responsibility. She has shown that one person’s actions can create a ripple effect, impacting communities and inspiring others to join the cause.

By sharing her story, Lakeda hopes to inspire more mothers, families, and military organizations to recognize the importance of supporting their communities.

As her organization continues to grow, Lakeda’s ultimate goal is to reach every county in Washington state, ensuring that no family or individual is left without the support they need. With her story now published in this letter to the editor, Lakeda aims to catch the attention of public officials and the government of Washington state, urging them to recognize the importance of her mission and to join her in making a lasting difference in the lives of countless families.
