Letter to the editor: Hydrogen is not a ‘renewable energy source’

Posted

Hydrogen is a clean-burning gas that must be manufactured using electrical energy. It appears in nature mainly as a constituent of water, and in hydrocarbons like oil.

The amount of electrical energy used to manufacture hydrogen fuel will be greater than the amount of energy that will be available from the hydrogen. But hydrogen can store that energy, like a battery.

The main result that Lewis County citizens will experience as a result of a hydrogen fueling station generating hydrogen fuel will be a substantial increase in their electric bill.

The reason this area has been chosen for hydrogen generation is because of our abundant and currently cheap hydropower. Increased demand due to hydrogen manufacture will make it no longer cheap to us.

Of course, the main reason for most “green energy” projects is to obtain multi-billion dollar grants from Biden’s multi-trillion dollar inflation-generating misnamed “Inflation Reduction Act.”

Yes, trillions of dollars of new debt has created the huge increases you see in all of your living expenses.

Currently, the only customer for hydrogen fuel is Twin Transit in Lewis County. So if they have no customers for the hydrogen, then perhaps they will use no electricity, and our electric rates will only be increased by our “Bidenomics”-generated inflation.

As a final thought, have you noticed how most new projects are being made possible by state and U.S. government “grants,” which come with all sorts of government conditions? This should show you how the government has taken over control of our economy using our taxes, and the creation of and spending of new money, which inflates our money supply.

Does anyone out there recognize the fact that our government is in the process of stealing away our economy and our freedom?
