Letter to the Editor: In Response to Commissioner’s Comments on Neo-Nazis, Republicans

Posted

This letter is regarding Lewis County Commissioner Lindsey Pollock’s statement at the Board of County Commissioners meeting on June 12.

Where did Commissioner Pollock get her information? I thought she was a doctor and did her research? To my knowledge, she has not asked anyone about those funny things called facts or details that might harm her overbearing attitude and now obvious agenda. I am actually grateful to observe her rush to judgment in the name of tolerance approach. She has intentionally conflated a disruption between neo-Nazis that took place six to eight hours earlier with the group I was with.

We had no idea of the previous conflict and do not know any facts regarding the reasons or outcome. Unlike our wise commissioner, I choose to discover the facts before following Commissioner Pollock’s practice of spreading unqualified slander by using the Republican Party and neo-Nazis in the same sentence.

Our group of Lewis County Republicans denounces all racism and bigotry. Pollock’s emotive outburst from a public chair as a commissioner causes me to pause in reflection of what her true beliefs are. The evening of the McFiler’s event, we were over a block removed from the event and did not obstruct access, raise our voices or cause a disruption. We had several conversations regarding First Amendment rights, educational philosophy and common experiences. We had no signs except American flag strips. We collected several signatures on multiple rosters for Initiative 2081, Protect Parental Rights, and Referendum 101, Stop the State From Hiding Our Kids.

Ninety-seven percent of Washingtonians disapprove of these new laws. Which of these “issues” and practices does our “fine Republican” oppose?

I would like to know how she stands. She spouts love for “others” but neglects to fight for our Lewis County families and children.

Conflating a minority with a minor seems to fit Commissioner Pollock’s idea of equality. Does she oppose both parental rights in schools and in their child’s medical care?

Political coercion of the educational system was an interesting phrase Commissioner Pollock used. Is a referendum or initiative a political coercion or a check and balance provided by our state and federal laws to allow for the people to be heard? Kind of like impeachment. Is asking citizens of our republic to sign a petition a form of coercion as well? Is the simple act of disagreeing coercion?

Where does free thought and discussion with those we might disagree with find its balance?

Do teachers really know how to raise our children better than parents? Is a specialist in math, science, English, social studies or foreign languages an expert on how to raise your child? The U.S. ranks 29th out 34 nations in the world. We spend more than any nation in the world on education. What is our return on investment? Not so good. Parents are the primary stakeholder in their children.

Maybe Commissioner Pollock would be better off serving the dogs rather than Lewis County. I will wait for the people of Lewis County to speak.
