Letter to the Editor: Material in Children’s Area of Library Upsetting

Posted

Kudos to those people boycotting woke businesses and ideologies such as Bud Light, Disney, Target, the NFL and anyone else moving toward a socialist agenda. But let’s take a look at something a little closer to home.

Even though probably over 90 percent of people in Lewis County are heterosexual, Centralia officials jumped on the bandwagon to declare June as Pride Month. Was it done because it was right or because the gay community is louder and more demanding? If people want to live that lifestyle, so be it. It’s their business. But please do not shove the pride agenda down the throats of the rest of us or focus it on our children.

Since Centralia schools have an early release on Wednesdays, I’ve been taking my 6-year-old and the little neighbor girl to the Centralia Timberland library every Wednesday to check out books and let them play in the nice children’s play area. On a recent Wednesday, the kids checked out their books and then began to play. Meanwhile, I noticed two displays of books with gay or transgender themes geared to very young children, situated right next to the play area. Some of these titles included “They, She, He, Me — Free to Be,” “Prince and Knight,” Maiden and Princess,” “I Am a Rainbow,” “Bye, Bye Binary,” “The Hips on the Drag Queen Go Swish, Swish, Swish,” “True You — A Gender Journey,” “If You’re a Drag Queen and You Know It,” “Queer Heroes,” “The Gender Wheel,” and the list goes on and on.

Well, I don’t want my child learning about these aberrant behaviors from the taxpayer-funded library in town, his school or anywhere else.

Are Lewis County libraries trying to undermine our parental teachings and religious beliefs through books? Young minds are so easily influenced and shaped.

The Timberland library system is funded mainly by local property taxes, with some additional income from timber sales taxes. Well I pay property taxes in Centralia and do not want my money being used by an entity to help foist this highly subjective lifestyle on our children. Does anybody in Lewis County know of a way to defund the library and stop our tax dollars from supporting this?

Our children are much more important than any other things we boycott today: beer, clothing, movies and sports teams. It’s time to come together to boycott the Timberland library in Centralia and everything it offers — books and activities —and also any other Lewis County libraries adhering to this agenda to undermine parents. Check out your local libraries for yourselves.

Evidently there are no credible persons in charge or on the library board who care as much about young minds and safety of our children as we parents do.

Children are our most important asset. They are our future, They do not deserve to have their minds tainted. My suggestion: Get all new board members and everyone boycott the library.
