We are writing today on behalf of the Log Cabin Republicans of Lewis County organization to publicly oppose and strongly condemn the recent behavior by the Lewis County Republicans who were identified as harassing and photographing patrons of a local pro-LGBT event in the Chehalis area.
We are saddened and outraged to see conservative politics in Lewis County warped by bigotry and abject hatred. Republicans who are seeking signatures for bipartisan initiatives do a disservice to all Republicans and broader conservatives when they associate wider bipartisan efforts, as well-known, visible Republican leaders in their community, with that of active hate groups like the Evergreen Active Club and Rose City Nationalists.
Log Cabin Republicans is the nation’s original and largest organization representing LGBT conservatives and straight allies who support fairness, freedom and equality for all Americans.
Log Cabin Republicans has state and local chapters nationwide, full-time staff in Washington, D.C., a federal political action committee and state political action committees.
As a group, we are concerned about the activity we see from the Lewis County Republicans and we encourage our fellow Republicans and conservatives to speak out against these actions. We believe equality for LGBT Americans is in the finest tradition of the Republican Party. We educate our party about why inclusion wins. Opposing LGBT equality is inconsistent with the GOP’s core principles of smaller government and personal freedom.
We hope that the Lewis County Republicans will choose to do better in the future, for the sake of all Republicans and conservatives. Due to the alienation of numerous LGBT members of the Lewis County community by the Lewis County Republicans, a local Log Cabin Republicans chapter has been established to speak out against local Republican leadership and we hope all other fair-minded Republicans will join us, too, in speaking out against all hatred and bigotry, as the commendable and respectable Commissioner Lindsey Pollock has done.
