Letter to the editor: PETA stands by comments on bird flu

Posted

Letter writer Kate Bagley’s Sept. 30 comments about my letter encouraging everyone to go vegan to reduce the risk of bird flu — because animal factories are hotbeds for zoonotic diseases — are inaccurate, as my letter was an original submission.

Writers from PETA don’t send canned or “identical letters” to papers nationwide, as Ms. Bagley implied.

In addition, an attorney with PETA pointed out that Ms. Bagley’s assertion that PETA is a “national lobbying organization” is false, as PETA is a 501(c)(3) organization and cannot engage in substantial lobbying activities. We ask the paper to remove or correct Ms. Bagley’s erroneous claims.

I stand by my well-documented point that animal factories can contribute to bird flu.
