Letter to the editor: Port commissioner behavior unprofessional

Posted

I am writing to express my deep concern about what I consider to be unprofessional behavior by Port of Centralia Commissioner Kyle Markstrom at recent meetings.

In one instance, Markstrom was caught on camera verbally rebuking a person for, I believe, looking at him. This behavior is completely unacceptable for a public official. Markstrom should be setting an example of professionalism and respect, not creating a hostile environment for those attending public meetings.

In recent mudslinging, Commissioner Markstrom took to the bully pulpit of the The Chronicle opinion page to voice his opinion on fellow Commissioner Peter Lahmann. This childish act in and of itself should get him an ethics reprimand from the Port Executive Director Kyle Heaton. This is a pattern of unprofessional behavior from Port Commissioner Markstrom in my opinion. Aided by Heaton, he is assured of no repercussions for his unprofessional behavior.

I am calling on Commissioner Markstrom to apologize for his unprofessional behavior and to commit to conducting himself in a more professional manner in the future.

If Markstrom is unable to conduct himself in a professional manner, he should resign as commissioner. The people of Centralia deserve better.
