Letter to the editor: Putting on the noose before a court date

Posted

Just read about House Bill 2150 in The Chronicle edition dated Jan. 13, 2024. I see a few red flags in this one.

Flag No. 1: Giving the secretary of state the power to ban a political candidate.

Flag No. 2: The candidate can be disqualified even though he or she may be totally innocent, having been charged and not yet acquitted.

To my way of thinking, that’s like putting the noose around the neck before the person goes to court. Naturally, this bill is not scheduled for any public hearing.
