Although there are many fine candidates for Lewis County commission in district 3, the one with the most experience and proven leadership is Pat Saldaña.
I know Pat Saldaña from covering the Morton School Board meetings for the East County Journal for three years.
I was always impressed with her preparation for each meeting, her thoughtful questions and thorough answers, and most of all the respect and dignity she showed everyone in every meeting.
Pat Saldaña is not afraid to ask questions or disagree with anyone, but she does it with civility and honesty.
Pat Saldaña will bring those skills and qualities to the Board of County Commissioners. She is also a business owner and longtime resident of Morton, as are her parents.
Pat Saldaña also founded the Northwest Backpack Snack program to provide weekend meals for students in need. She understands the needs of business owners and people living in rural parts of Lewis County.
When Gary Stamper first ran for commissioner in 2014, I had no idea what a county commissioner did, but I believed in Gary and his ability to work with people and work hard for people. I admired his ability to rise above the noise and find the good in everyone. Though no one could ever replace Gary in my eyes, Pat Saldaña would be an excellent choice to fill his seat on the BOCC.
