Letter to the Editor: When Will Congresswoman Take Ownership of Actions?

Posted

Recently, U.S. Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez made headlines about her failure to pay her LLC’s property taxes. Marie’s statement about her LLC’s unpaid property taxes has her quoted as saying, “After I was declared the winner, I gave up ownership of the property at 1506 NE Lombard. The property tax bill has been paid in full during the tax year in question.”

Her statement is misleading on two points as even the author mentions a few paragraphs down that Marie resigned and Dean was listed as president in March 2023 and the tax bill was not paid in full until May, six months after it was due. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez was declared the winner on Dec. 21, 2022.

As a taxpayer, I have concerns about how my representative has handled this issue. First, Marie was still president of her LLC when her taxes were to be paid. Did she purposely try to mislead the press and blame her husband? Why did it take an investigation to prompt Marie to have those property taxes on May 31?

There is a pattern of unaccountability developing with Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez. If you recall back on Sept. 24, 2022, a story broke on Marie supporting antifa during the July 2022 riot on a federal building in downtown Portland. Marie provided a statement about her business Instagram post that offered “pro bono“ support for antifa and stated, “an employee of Dean’s made that post.”

As a business owner, and now congresswoman, when will Marie take ownership for her actions instead of pointing the finger at others?
