Letter to the Editor: Will Centralia, Lewis County Take Action on New Eyesore?

Posted

A few years ago, Lewis County cleaned up two massive eyesores: one on Harrison Avenue and one on Reynolds Avenue.

There is now a new one started on North Pearl Street in the 1700 block. This used to be a used car lot years ago. The person is moving all his old cars, trailers, boats and buses into this lot. He has been evicted from the former property because of new owners.

I am sure there will be scrap engines, fenders and other scrap piled up over time.

How long will Centralia and Lewis County let this go on at this lot? Will it have to get so large before anything is done? Then what about the contamination to the ground from oil, gas and antifreeze? Not to mention all the wildlife looking for a new place to live.

Is the property owner ready for the clean up bill if it comes to that?

It is now time for Centralia, Lewis County and the state of Washington to step in to this eyesore and put a stop to it before taxpayers have to pay for the clean up.

What about the property owner? Is he licensed to run hulk storage, scrap storage? What about the taxes on the rent is he making as a business?

What about the property around this lot? Will it affect the value of it?

It’s time for the property owners to speak out before it’s too late. North Pearl Street does not need this type of eyesore to look at.

I am asking the city of Centralia and Lewis County to start a investigation from all sides.
