Letter to the editor: You will only appreciate your freedoms when they are gone

Posted

The most important thing to think about during this election is: What do you want our country to be?

Do you want it to remain a democratic republic that offers freedoms that no other country has, or do you want it to become a socialist and communist country like so many others?

Many politicians are trying to convince us that somehow that would create a better way of life, and many citizens are succumbing to the brainwashing. Think about why our country has historically been the refuge for people seeking a better life. There’s a reason you don’t see our citizens moving to places like Russia, China, Korea or Middle Eastern countries. But for some reason, whether it’s not teaching civics in school or whether people are just gullible to the left’s agenda, people are being convinced that our country isn’t actually what it is.

To keep our freedoms, you must think about the reason our founding fathers created the Constitution, still known as a divine document. They wanted our country to be the most free in the world, and it still is to this day. It gives opportunities that are not available to any other citizens in any other country in the world. That so many politicians want to change that for the worst is beyond imagination.

I believe this is more crucial than most people realize. You will only appreciate your freedoms when they are gone. Think seriously about it before you mark your ballot.
