A Level 3 sex offender who has been living in Lewis County off and on since 2013 has been convicted for failure to register as a sex offender.
Zachariah G. Tooley, 44, was sentenced Wednesday, Jan. 8, in Lewis County Superior Court to 33 months in prison.
Tooley was charged Oct. 21, 2024, failing to properly register as a transient every week with the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office between Sept. 3 and Sept. 9, according to court documents.
He was arrested in Josephine County, Oregon, on Sept. 10 for a Department of Corrections violation.
“Mr. Tooley did not communicate his intention to leave Washington, submit a change of address, or register with Josephine County before being arrested there,” the Lewis County Prosecutor’s Office states in charging documents.
Tooley entered a guilty plea on Nov. 26.
Tooley’s sex offender registration stems from a 2004 third-degree rape conviction in Josephine County Circuit Court in Oregon. In that case, Tooley had sexual contact with a known 13-year-old female when he was 23 years old, according to previous Chronicle reporting.
In 2013, Tooley was convicted of failure to register as a sex offender.
In 2014, Tooley was convicted of attempted third-degree rape in Lewis County for an incident that happened in 2011.
“Because of Tooley’s crimes, he has been classified as a high risk to reoffend,” the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office stated in a news release in 2018, when Tooley moved to an Onalaska residence.
