The Lewis County branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) will launch its 45th annual used book sale on Thursday in Centralia.

The sale will run from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. It will be located at the Moose Lodge, 1400 Grand Ave., Centralia.

Book prices start at $3 for hardcovers and $2 for paperbacks on Thursday before dropping to $2 for hardcovers and $1 for paperbacks on Friday. On Saturday, attendees can take home a bag of books for $5.

Thousands of fiction and nonfiction books, audiobooks, CDs and DVDs will be on sale. Nonfiction books are separated into more than 50 categories including biography, cooking, history, religion, self-help and a large selection of children’s books.

Shoppers can find books for their own reading pleasure as well as gifts, such as coffee table books, cookbooks, older titles or the latest bestsellers.

Since the first event in 1979, the Lewis County AAUW book sale has provided thousands of area residents with the opportunity to discover and purchase books of all types at low prices.

Proceeds from the book sale support the mission of AAUW — education for women. Money from the annual sale has funded scholarships to local women attending college, as well as middle school and high school girls for summer camps focusing on STEM subjects.

Lewis County AAUW also co-sponsors Expanding Your Horizons, a hands-on career day for middle school students each October, and has provided financial support to Hope Alliance of Lewis County as it assists survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.

Founded in 1881, AAUW is the largest and oldest national organization working for the professional and educational advancement of women.
