Lewis County AAUW’s book sale raises $19,500 for women’s education

The Lewis County Association of American University Women (AAUW) raised approximately $19,500 at its annual used book sale, which was held Thursday through Saturday at the Moose Lodge in Centralia.

“That's a new record for us,” reported Peggy Hammer, of AAUW. “Of course, we have some expenses to cover, but it's an incredible achievement and will allow us to do so much in awarding local scholarships and supporting our other AAUW projects.”

Lewis County AAUW has held the sale since 1979.

Prices were reduced on Friday before attendees had the option of purchasing an entire bag of books for $5 on Saturday.

The selection included thousands of books across all genres.

Proceeds from the book sale support AAUW’s mission of providing and enriching education options for women.

Lewis County AAUW also co-sponsors Expanding Your Horizons, a hands-on career day for middle school students, each October and has provided financial support to Hope Alliance as the nonprofit assists survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.

Founded in 1881, AAUW is the largest and oldest national organization working for the professional and educational advancement of women. In 2023, the Lewis County branch celebrated its 100th year since the branch was formed in 1923.
