Lewis County Public Health and Social Services has announced the launch of its Community Health Assessment and related question and answer sessions.

According to a news release from the county, the assessment “will explore the health of our county by listening to the people who live here.”

Lewis County residents are invited to attend one of two Zoom sessions on Tuesday, March 4, from noon to 1 p.m., and Wednesday, March 5, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

“The presentations will share the timeline and key components of the assessment,” Public Health stated in the news release. “Attendees can ask questions and share feedback during the discussion. All are welcome to attend.”

The assessment, aimed at learning the health needs of the county, will be conducted throughout 2025. The process includes talking to community leaders, hosting community listening sessions and analyzing survey responses.

The results will culminate in a report published in early 2026, according to the news release.

“We need input from everyone, from residents to providers, and we will be meeting people where they are at so that voices from across Lewis County are heard and included in future planning efforts,” said Meja Handlen, director of Lewis County Public Health and Social Services.

Lewis County Public Health and Social Services conducted its last Community Health Assessment in 2019 and more recently conducted a Lewis County Family Health Report in 2024.

The 2019 Community Health Assessment came with a 31-page report showing a range of successes and challenges and highlighting a short list of key findings. The results showed a decrease in people over 16 in the workforce, an increase in community members with health insurance, lower cancer rates and teen pregnancy rates higher than the state average.
