Lewis County Auditor’s Office encourages voters to return primary ballots early

The Lewis County Auditor’s Office has advised registered voters to mail their ballots at least a week before the Aug. 6 primary.

In a news release Thursday, the auditor’s office said the additional time helps ensure ballots will be postmarked in time to be counted in the primary.

“If the ballot is not mailed until election day, the voter should take the ballot packet to a postal clerk inside the post office and have the clerk stamp the envelope with a circular post office cancellation stamp,” the auditor’s office said.

Voters can also drop their ballots at drop boxes scattered throughout the county through 8 p.m. on election day. Drop box locations can be found at https://elections.lewiscountywa.gov

The Lewis County Auditor’s Office previously mailed 54,982 ballots to registered voters in Lewis County, which should have arrived in mailboxes by Friday. The auditor’s office mailed 526 military and overseas ballots on June 20.

If a voter hasn’t received their ballot after 10 days, the auditor’s office recommends visiting votewa.gov and selecting “my ballot,” calling 360-740-1278 or visiting 351 NW North St., Chehalis. If a registered voter has moved, they can update their registration with either of the options.

The auditor’s office also acts as a voting center and accessible voting units are available during regular business hours and on election day from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
