As parents around the nation get their children ready for the start of the new school year, staff from Lewis County’s Juvenile Court and Youth Mentorship Program are preparing to once again hold their annual “Back to School Supply Give-A-Way and Resource Fair” this Thursday, according to a county news release.

“Last year we had over 1,400 people come through in six hours,” Lewis County Youth Mentorship Program Director Lisa Leon said in the release. “We will be offering free backpacks, free school supplies, free sports physicals, free haircuts, free clothes, free shoes and connections to resources. This year, more than 90 agencies have registered to attend and hand out supplies.”

The school resource fair will once again be held at the Northwest Sports Hub, located at 701 Allen Ave. in Centralia, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 20.

The hours from 9 to 11 a.m. are reserved for medically fragile and neurodiverse youth, Leon added.

Haircuts will be given out courtesy of Historic Barbershop Centralia and Toro’s Barbershop. Other agencies and sponsors include the Community Health Plan of Washington, Wellpoint, Molina Healthcare, Schine Health, Coordinated Care, Peak Credit Union and the Great Rivers Family Youth System Partner Round Table.
