Lewis County Board of Commissioners plans workshops ahead of Comprehensive Plan hearing

Posted

The Lewis County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) will hold three workshops over the next few weeks to review proposed changes to the county’s Comprehensive Plan, a news release from the BOCC stated.

The changes, as recommended by the Lewis County Planning Commission, include regulation of short-term rentals (STRs), updates to the requirements related to development in Onalaska and Packwood, new energy production and storage facilities, and signs on private property.

County staff will present overviews of the proposed Comprehensive Plan changes as follows:

• Aug. 20: Goals, policies and zoning designations

• Aug. 27: Development regulations

• Sept. 8: Short-term rentals.

The public can attend the workshops virtually or in person in the Commissioners’ Hearing Room on the second floor of the Historic Courthouse at 351 NW North St. in Chehalis. Visit the BOCC Calendar at shorturl.at/FOGx7 and choose the corresponding date to confirm the workshop details, including time, location and Zoom login.

No public comments or testimony will be taken at the workshops.

The BOCC has tentatively scheduled its public hearing for Sept. 23. A notice of hearing will be published at least 14 days before the hearing and will include information about how the public can provide testimony to the BOCC regarding the proposal.

“Every 10 years the county is required to update our Comprehensive Plan,” Mindy Brooks, director of Lewis County Community Development, said. “It’s an opportunity for us to consider how to manage growth to support new housing and jobs and ensure services. And it’s an opportunity for the public to share their priorities for the future.”

All materials, including minutes and handouts from the dozens of open public meetings the Planning Commission held, are available at shorturl.at/f5Zqh.
