Lewis County commissioners are now accepting applications to serve on the Area Agency on Aging Advisory Council. The move comes after the commissioners unanimously voted Aug. 28 to remove Carol Brock from the board following a controversial policy restricting prayer and discussion of politics at Lewis County senior centers.

Members of the Lewis-Mason-Thurston Area Agency on Aging (LMTAAA) Advisory Council are appointed by the county commissioners of the respective counties.

According to a Friday afternoon news release from Lewis County, board members “manage, monitor, plan, fund, coordinate and advocate for services and programs that serve the elderly and younger disabled persons.”

Board members do not get paid but receive reimbursement for travel expenses for the monthly meeting. The board meets from 9:30 a.m. to noon on the first Wednesday of each month at the Area Agency on Aging office in Olympia.

Board members are assigned committees and responsibilities such as health promotion, small-project support and public information.

Applications can be found at lewiscountywa.gov/offices/commissioners and the deadline for submission is 3 p.m. on Sept. 21. Completed applications should be sent to both committees@lewiscountywa.gov and jessica.hodges@dshs.wa.gov and include “LMTAAA” in the subject line.
