Lewis County Hosting Yard Waste Collection Event

Posted

Lewis County transfer stations in Centralia and Morton will offer a special yard waste collection event through May 13, according to a news release.

The events began Monday.

Yard waste will need to be separated into two categories for the Centralia transfer station: grass clippings and leaves compose the first category while chippable wood debris accounts for the second.

The Centralia transfer station is located at 1411 S. Tower Ave. and is open Monday through Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. In-bound gates close at 5:15 p.m.

East Lewis County residents going to the Morton transfer station do not need to separate their yard waste as it will all be put in the same container.

The Morton transfer station is located at 6745 U.S. Highway 12, a few miles east of Morton. It is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. In-bound gates close at 4:45 p.m.

All materials collected will either be composted or chipped for use on trails and backyard composting.

Noxious weeds like blackberry bushes and Scotch broom will not be accepted and must be disposed of in regular garbage collection. For more information on noxious weeds, visit https://bit.ly/3VirZwh.

The special yard waste collection event funding is provided in part by the Washington state Department of Ecology.
