Volunteer “fixers” will be on hand at the Lewis County Repair & Sustainability Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 14, at the Morton Senior Center, located at 103 Westlake Ave. in Morton.
Lewis County Solid Waste Utility and the Washington State University Lewis County Master Recycler Composter Volunteers have brought together residents who are handy at a variety of crafts to repair clothing, furniture, electronics, bicycles, jewelry and more.
“We’re excited to bring another Repair & Sustainability Fair to residents living in the east end of Lewis County,” Melanie Case, sustainability program coordinator for the Lewis County Department of Public Works Solid Waste Utility. “Our volunteers will teach people how to repair items and give the items a longer life by maintaining them. Our goal is to keep items out of the landfill.”
In addition to offering repair, WSU Extension staff will offer canning gauge testing, community resource booths will provide tips on living more sustainable lives, an exchange table of free items, and sensitive document shredding will be available from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the parking lot. Customers may bring up to five grocery bags of materials they would like to have shredded for free.
