Bail has been set at $25,000 for a Lewis County man accused of failing to register as a sex offender.

State law requires the defendant, Steven Allen Maggard, 51, to register as a Level 1 sex offender due to a 1991 conviction for attempted third-degree rape of a child, according to the Washington Sex Offender Public Registry.

The registry lists Maggard as non-compliant as he allegedly moved without registering with his new address. Lewis County Superior Court approved a warrant for Maggard’s arrest in 2021.

As this is his third alleged offense, the charge was elevated to a felony, according to a Lewis County Superior Court judge.

The Lewis County Sheriff’s Office arrested Maggard on the warrant on Friday, as well as on multiple counts of third-degree driving with a suspended license and a $15,000 warrant from an outside agency, according to Lewis County Jail records.

The combined bail for all of Maggard’s cases total $70,000, according to jail records.
