The Lewis County Tennis Association announced the date of the annual Jack State Invitational, which is set for July 19 at the Jack State Courts at W.F. West High School.
The LCTA said in a release that they “would like to encourage community members of all ages, those who played for Jack, and anyone who simply shares Jack’s passion for the game and its ability to bring people together, to attend this heartfelt event.”
All ages and skill levels are welcome, and the event will include casual match play, skills and drills, and food and friends.
State began coaching tennis at W.F. West in 1975, and he coached generations of players until his death last January. He coached the boys’ team for 50 years and the girls’ for 47.
Since his death, his two kids — Kristin and Kyle — have started the Jack State Foundation, which “is dedicated to empowering student athletes, ensuring access to sport is never hindered by finances, and granting young people the opportunity to play.”
Players can RSVP for the event on the Lewis County Tennis Association Facebook event page.
“Jack loved this event and loved to see so many tennis friends come together for a good time on the courts,” a statement on the Facebook page says. “His legacy continues as we support future generations in the sport of tennis.”
