Lewis County to sell uncut timber east of Chehalis

Lewis County is seeking bids for the purchase of a strip of uncut timber near the unincorporated community of Claquato that it values at more than $3,000 at a minimum.

The Lewis County Board of Commissioners officially declared the uncut timber on a small strip of land along Kray Road to be surplused and requested bids to purchase the timber be submitted by Thursday, June 11.

The 1.2-acre plot of land along Kray Road is considered part of the Lewis County right-of-way.

According to Lewis County Public Works official Kimberly Edminster, the strip of land neighbors a parcel of timber that was recently logged and is now considered “vulnerable.” It also neighbors a small housing development. Lewis County Public Works warns the stand could pose a danger to the public.

In the resolution approved by the commissioners, Edminster requested the commissioners conduct a sealed bid process to sell the timber, including a minimum bid for the timber based on a recent valuation.

“Public Works is recommending the county surplus and sell the timber through a sealed bid process with a minimum bid amount established at $3,060.00 based on a recent timber cruise,” Edminster said.

Bids for the timber must include a cashier’s check for a minimum of $500 that will be returned on a failed bid or credited toward the final sale for a successful bid. The final proceeds of the sale will be credited to the county’s roads fund.
