Lewis County Transit Executive Director Robert “Josh” Nylander is departing from his role after just four months, the Lewis County Transit Authority Board of Directors announced in a news release Friday, Jan. 30.
Nylander’s departure from the agency is effective immediately. He started the job on Sept. 15, 2025, following the retirement of Executive Director Joe Clark in August.
“This decision reflects the organization’s commitment to ongoing improvement and exemplary service to our community with the highest standards of leadership,” Lewis County Transit said in the release. “During this transitional period, Lewis County Transit will continue to prioritize service reliability, rider satisfaction, and transparent communication to the public and Lewis County Transit employees.”
Lewis County Transit said its board of directors will appoint an interim director to “oversee daily operations as the agency undertakes a thorough search for new leadership.”
At the time of Nylander’s hire, Lewis County Transit touted his 14 years of experience in public transit. His experience included nine years with the Whatcom Transportation Authority, most recently as its director of information technology. Lewis County Transit also lauded Nylander’s “people-centered leadership style” and his experience “building strong teams through empathy, mentorship and collaboration.”
Now, the regional transportation organization will search for its third executive director in four months.
“We thank the director for their contributions and wish them well in their future endeavors,” Scott Brummer, chair of the transit authority board and Lewis County commissioner, said in a release. “Our team is united in moving forward, ensuring uninterrupted service for all riders and support for our dedicated employees.”
