With summer vacation ending soon for many students throughout Lewis County, the Lewis County Youth Mentorship Program is gearing up to hold its annual Back to School Supply Give-Away and Resource Fair from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 21, according to a county news release.

The first two hours are reserved for families with neurodiverse and medically fragile children.

“The NW Sports Hub has once again donated their space to host the event,” Youth Mentorship Program Coordinator Lisa Leon said in the release. “We are hoping to support 2,000 local youth and families. We have over 70 community agencies signed up to attend.”

Free backpacks, school supplies, clothing and shoes for students will be available while supplies last. The Northwest Sports Hub is located at 701 Allen Ave. in Centralia.

“The first two hours are for neurodiverse and medically fragile youth, then at 11 a.m. we will open to the general public of Lewis County,” Leon added. “... Historic Barbershop and Toros Barbershop will be providing free haircuts, Schine Health and Nature Nurture Farmacy will be providing free sports physicals (and) Walgreens will be there giving out free vaccines.”

Other agencies and sponsors include the Community Health Plan of Washington, Wellpoint, Coordinated Care and the Great Rivers Family Youth System Partner Round Table.

County staff will also be handing supplies and offering help getting services, and the Washington state Department of Social and Health Services mobile office will be set up as well to assist families seeking benefits.

Donations of school supplies or money for the event can still be made.

Those wishing to donate school supplies can drop them off or send them to Leon’s office, located at 1255 SW Pacific Ave., Chehalis.

Monetary donations can be sent to the Lewis County Youth Association at P.O. Box 1293, Napavine, with the donation earmarked for the Youth Mentorship Program Back to School Supply Give Away and Resource Fair.
